Dr. Rachel M. Hoadley-Clausen
Rachel Hoadley-Clausen, Ph.D. (Dr. HC) is a licensed clinical and counseling psychologist in Mobile, Alabama, who grew up on the Gulf Coast. She established and continues to provide the Behavioral Health services at the Neuromuscular Spine and Joint Center. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of South Alabama's Department of Psychology and teaches Mental Health and Law as well as Introduction to Psychology. Additionally, she worked with an instructional design team to redesign the Introduction to Psychology course for the Department of Psychology. This involved generating content videos, course outlines, syllabi design, assignments, discussion prompts, examinations, generating learning objectives, and updating presentations. Dr. HC also regularly presents continuing medical education credits to regional and national hospitals and medical groups.
Her clinical practice focuses on interdisciplinary outpatient psychological care to the Gulf Coast region for many medical conditions, including chronic pain, surgical evaluations (for spinal cord stimulators, bariatric surgeries, and gender affirmation surgeries), and other psychological evaluations. Most of her clinical work involves trauma disorders and medical management, though she has formal training across a variety of disorders and ages.
These evaluations include the developmental, emotional, behavioral, cognitive, neuropsychological, and other assessments. Conners’ CPT- 3, Conners CATA, the ADOS-2, WISC-V, WIAT-IV, effort measures, self- and other- rating forms to evaluate memory, ADHD, dementia, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and disability evaluations.
Dr. HC’s psychotherapy services include an initial evaluation for adults and children, symptom management and reduction (pain management, depressive, anxious, trauma/stressor-induced, cognitive decline), family and couples' therapy, adult group sessions for chronic pain management, child/adolescent groups for social skill development in Autism Spectrum Disorders, and mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques.
Her formal training includes a residency at the Central Alabama Veterans' Healthcare System with rotations and certifications concerning PTSD, chronic pain, and generate outpatient psychotherapy. Her doctoral training at the Clinical and Counseling Psychology program and her Applied Psychology master's program at the University of South Alabama involved research and clinical placements in clinical neuropsychology, integrated primary care in the Mobile County Health Departments, family therapies for children with autism spectrum disorders, pediatric endocrinology, adolescent primary care, and as a classroom and student evaluator within the Mobile County Public School System. In addition to general outpatient psychological evaluations, she has formal training and/or certifications and offers the following assessments: ADOS-2 and Autism/developmental evaluations, ADHD and Specific Learning Disorders (dyslexia/reading disorder) evaluations, IQ/intelligence evaluations, CAPS-5 and PTSD/trauma evaluations, and pre-surgical evaluations for spinal, bariatric, and gender affirmation surgeries.
She provides outreach and education to providers, schools, on social media, and to community members regarding behavioral health management of medical conditions, trauma and stress management, relationships and social support, and LGBTQIA issues.
